Los Alamos NewsLetter to be distributed this week

The biweekly hard-copy of the Los Alamos NewsLetter for the week of June 7 is scheduled to be in mailboxes and newsstands this week.

Featured on this week's cover is a story on how a Lab team is helping climate scientists around the world develop a better understanding of the complicated role that sea ice plays in the global climate.

On Page 2, security, security, security . . . At a mandatory all-employee meeting, Laboratory Director G. Laboratory researchers collaborating with colleagues at Harvard Medical School have developed a model and diagnostic tools to simulate the dynamics of DNA. Read about this on Page 3.

Page 4 includes stories on the establishment of a new division at the Laboratory that is responsible for supporting and optimizing all nuclear and non-nuclear manufacturing work at the Lab and the creation of the Institute for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research.

When the threat of thunderstorms develops, learn what precautions should be taken by reading the story on Page 5. Also on Page 5, Stephen Younger of the Theoretical (T) Division talks about terrorism and its affect on diversity at an Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month talk at the Laboratory.

On Page 7, look for a new feedback feature called "So ... what do you think? Newsletter staff will travel to different locations around the Laboratory to solicit employee responses to a predetermined question relevant to the Lab community. Read what your co-workers have to say.

The spotlight on Page 8 features Laboratory retiree Norm Wilson who was awarded a Community Achievement Award by the American Kennel Club for his work in lobbying against a bill before the New Mexico Legislature.

Employees can access the Los Alamos NewsLetter at http://www.lanl.gov/worldview/news/lanl_archive.shtml online or obtain additional copies at the bright blue distribution boxes throughout the Lab.
