Nanos talk Wednesday to focus on diversity

Laboratory Director G. Peter Nanos, former commander of the Naval Sea Systems Command and of the Navy's strategic nuclear program, is scheduled to talk from 9 to 10 a.m., Wednesday, in the Physics Building Auditorium at Technical Area 3.

His speech will center on diversity within the Laboratory; where we are, and what we should be doing. Laboratory personnel who are unable to attend in person can watch it on Labnet Channel 9 or on desktop computers using Real Media and IPTV Technology.

Nanos was invited to speak about diversity because he has a unique perspective on the subject as it is recognized that the Navy was in the forefront of this movement, said Lisa Gutierrez, Diversity (DVO) Office leader. Additionally, Nanos supports the development of work force diversity, she said.

This is the final event of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which is normally celebrated in May. Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at the Laboratory is sponsored by the Asian American Diversity Working Group, the Diversity Affirmative Action Board, and the Diversity Office.
