Retirement planning seminar is May 25

Benefits and Employment Services (HR-B) and Fidelity Investments is hosting a retirement planning seminar May 25 in Los Alamos. The event begins at 8 a.m., at the Reel Deal Movie Theatre, 2551 Central Ave., downtown.

Registration begins at 7:15 a.m., and the seminar is designed primarily for active University of California Laboratory employees who are planning for retirement. A number of speakers are scheduled to attend to discuss retirement planning issues, said Ellen Fox of HR-B. Spouses are welcome to attend.

"Retirement is just around the bend and planning and saving for retirement may be one of your biggest decisions," said Fox. "It is important to learn how to manage your money. The decisions you make today may have an impact on the way you live your life in retirement."

Fox and Ginnie Romero, both of HR-B, will talk about UC retiree benefits, while Roland Jacobson of Fidelity Investments is scheduled to speak on "Investing Your Retirement Account in a Changing Market."

Jacobson will provide a market overview and talk about mutual funds and asset allocation principles.

Brent Clark of Fidelity Investments will speak on the "Five Golden Rules for Income Planning." His talk focuses on common mistakes in income planning, strategies to avoid running into financial difficulties in retirement and how to deal with and adjust to market volatility.

Parking around the theatre is limited and UC Lab employees interested in attending are asked to consider parking east of the theatre near Central Park Square, off Central Avenue.

To confirm attendance, contact Tyler Dutton at Fidelity Investments at 1-800-642-7131 by Friday.
