This two-session class is geared toward women and couples planning a pregnancy, or women in the early months of pregnancy. Updated 5/3/04 EnergyGard Southwest conference begins today Key agencies and firms will provide expertise to the energy sector during a two day conference on best practices to assist in protecting against emerging threats to the powergrid, generation facilities, oil and natural gas production and pipeline systems and other critical energy sector components. InfraGard New Mexico, in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and sponsors PNM and Sandia National Laboratories, will be presenting EnergyGard Southwest from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., May 3 - 4, at the University of New Mexico Continuing Education Center in Albuquerque. Other participating organizations include Los Alamos National Laboratories, the Bonneville Power Administration, the United States Attorney's Office and Dyonyx. Updated 5/3/04 Xerox copier supplies no longer available on JIT -- Order direct from Xerox New procedures are available for the purchase of Xerox copier supplies (i.e. staples, tonner, developer, etc.). These items are no longer available through just-in-time. This does not include paper products. All bulk paper, engineering, copier, printer, recycle, etc., will remain available through JIT. Xerox copier supplies can be purchased as part of the new Xerox Maintenance Agreement Subcontract. All supplies (except paper) can be ordered when monthly meter reads are provided directly to Xerox by calling 1-888-209-7473 and key in your phone number. Updated 4/12/04 Tree thinning activities in Rendija Canyon A project to remove dead and dying trees on the south side of the bottom of Rendija Canyon on Department of Energy property began April 12. Infrastructure Projects (FWO-IP) is doing the work, which is expected to continue through about May 15. For public safety, the work area will be limited to FWO-IP and subcontract personnel. The public is asked to avoid using this area during thinning activities, including nights and weekends. For more information, contact Phoebe Suina of FWO-IP at 7-4548. Updated 4/19/04 Registration underway for summer camp at Los Alamos Family YMCA The Los Alamos Family YMCA, a Laboratory sanctioned organization, is now registering youths for its annual summer camp. The camp runs from June 7 through Aug. 20. The "Day Camp Down Under" is for children between ages 5 and 12 and is in session from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at Mountain Elementary School. Activities include field trips, guest speakers, rock climbing, racquetball, library and aquatic center trips and arts and crafts activities. Between April 12 and May 7, the $25 registration fee is being waived and membership in the Los Alamos Family YMCA is not required. The Los Alamos Family YMCA is located at 1450 Iris St. downtown. Our HP and IBM equipment may be purchased using the Lab purchase order and products will be delivered in under three days. The LabVIEW Basics I prepares you to develop test and measurement, data acquisition, instrument control, data logging and measurement analysis applications using LabVIEW. The LabVIEW Basics II course is a logical extension of Basics I and prepares you to design complete, stand-alone applications in LabVIEW. LabVIEW Intermediate I teaches structured practices to design, develop, test and deploy LabVIEW applications. The Intermediate II course builds on the skills developed in LabVIEW Intermediate I by doing an in-depth examination of memory management and performance techniques to help extend the ability to develop LabVIEW code that maximizes application performance. This training is also for LabVIEW users pursuing the Certified LabVIEW Developer certification. Updated 2/26/04 Employees leaving Lab must attend termination presentation Employees who are leaving the Laboratory or changing to casual status must attend a benefits termination presentation held by Benefits (HR-B). The termination presentations are held every Laboratory pay day for University of California Lab employees. Employees who are retiring aren't required to attend a presentation, but rather, they should schedule a meeting with their designated benefits specialist. The presentations begin at 8:30 a.m. in room P280 on the second floor of the Otowi Building at Technical Area 3. Pre-registration is required. Employees should register on line at http://hrcluster.lanl.gov/TIOCourses/TIOAha.asp?CourseNumber=21013 one to two weeks prior to their last scheduled work day to sign up for a benefits termination presentation. Employees also must obtain a departure processing form from Staffing (HR-S) before the presentation. This form is available at http://www.hr.lanl.gov/hrstaffing/Terminations/index.stm online. At the presentation, employees will receive a packet of information about their benefits and savings balances. They will learn about options to continue or convert insurance plans and distribution options for savings funds. Employees who require a sign language interpreter should write to benefits@lanl.gov by e-mail three days in advance of the presentation they plan to attend.
