Integrated Work Management - Interim Process

This notice replaces notice 131; the requirements/guidance are to be implemented beginning May 1. Notice 131 was originally issued Nov. 3, 2003 requiring improvements that are to be implemented until they are incorporated into revisions to the Laboratory's work control/management LIRs. Also, see Director's Instruction, DI04-004, dated April 26, for additional, specific revisions and guidance. (Adobe Acrobat Reader required)

To enhance the Laboratory's work management processes for safely conducting work, an Integrated Work Management Committee (IWMC) was appointed by the Laboratory Director to develop improvements in Safe Work Practices, Hazard Analysis and Control for Facility Work and other requirements that support them. The IWMC has been conducting the initiative for piloting, and implementing a comprehensive set of work control improvements.

Revised implementation for chemical facility categorization

The revised LIR 300-00-05.3, Facility Hazard Categorization, was posted on the Policy Center/Requirements Web page on March 18. The LIR included a requirement that within 60 days of the issuance of the LIR, all facilities must submit a draft facility specific plan to the Safety Basis Office (PS-4) that address facility categorization and subsequent safety basis document development by May 16. Since the issuance of the LIR, the chemical threshold values referenced in it for categorization purposes require further review. Therefore, the categorizing of facilities based on chemical inventory per LIR 300-00-05.3 has been postponed until the required review is completed.
