KSL Services achieves safety milestone

KSL Services, the Laboratory's site support services contract company, recently set a safety work performance record by working one million consecutive hours without a lost work day because of work related injury or illness.

"This is a record for the site support services subcontractor at Los Alamos," said Ed Burckle, KSL interim general manager. "I'm proud of our work force. The majority of our work is performed in an industrial environment with many potential safety risks. This record is a direct reflection of our employees' professionalism and their attitude toward safety.

"KSL's goal is an incident and injury free workplace, and this achievement shows that our employees and our subcontractor employees are identifying work hazards before performing jobs and then taking the necessary safety precautions. Performing safe work is our most important corporate value," said Burckle.

The last lost work day suffered by a KSL Services worker was Oct. 15, 2003. KSL Services has about 1,500 employees at the Laboratory.
