Monday, April 19, 2004 Gas line replacement project starts today on Trinity DriveLos Alamos County today begins an eight-week project to replace a natural gas line on Trinity Drive between 20th Street and Oppenheimer Drive. The work will necessitate lane closures for short periods on Trinity Drive. Flores and Associates of Santa Fe is replacing the natural gas line and will begin working on the north side of Trinity Drive near Oppenheimer Drive, said Tracey Alarid, Los Alamos County's acting public affairs officer in the county utilities department. The contractor will minimize traffic disruption by exposing the old, corroded line at various locations and inserting new, polyethylene line into the old steel line, Alarid explained. A bypass line will be installed to avoid any interruption in utility service to customers, she said. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in late June. Lab workers may expect temporary delays through the work zone. Signs and other traffic control devices will be set up to alert motorists to the planned work.
