Immele to reprise talk on national security programs

Laboratory Deputy Director for National Security John Immele will reprise his colloquium, "National Security Perspectives," at 1:10 p.m., Wednesday, in the Administration Building Auditorium at Technical Area 3. More than 100 people were turned away due to space limitations when Immele recently delivered his forward-looking overview of the Laboratory's stockpile stewardship and threat-reduction programs. Only Q-cleared employees may attend.

Immele's review, a "state of the programs" talk, complements the state of the Laboratory talk delivered by Laboratory Director G. Peter Nanos last month. Nanos has asked all the Laboratory's deputy and associate directors to review the work for which they are responsible and offer status reports for employees.

Immele's review includes how recent changes in the national and international security environment might affect Laboratory program priorities. These topics include the Nuclear Posture Review and expected changes in stockpile composition, defense transformation, nonproliferation, counterterrorism and homeland security.

A short news account of the talk appeared in the Daily Newsbulletin on April 14 and is available at http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/pa/newsbulletin/2004/04/14/text02.shtml online.
