Corporate Challenge road race, walk April 25Lab to field team University of California Laboratory employees, retirees, spouses and their offspring, and subcontract personnel can join the Lab's team participating in the 17th annual United States Corporate Athletics Association's New Mexico spring Corporate Challenge. This year's road race and walk is April 25 at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque. The event consists of 3- and 5-mile distances for men and women. Ribbons are given to the top 10 finishers in each 10-year age and gender category, said Ron Kirkpatrick of Integrated Physics Methods (X-3), the Lab's Corporate Challenge team captain. The Corporate Challenge pits local employers such as the Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories and Intel Corp., in the road race and walk and a separate track and field competition. The track and field portion of the Corporate Challenge is May 23, also at La Cueva High School. Events include 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meter runs, relays of mixed age and gender, shot put, discus, long jump and high jump field events, said Kirkpatrick The cost to enter the road race and walk is $5. Personal checks should be addressed to New Mexico Corporate Challenge and mailed to Kirkpatrick at Mail Stop T085. The deadline to sign up for the road race and walk is April 16. Participation in the Corporate Challenge is Laboratory sanctioned. Los Alamos has participated in the challenge for more than 20 years, according to Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick noted that subcontract personnel can participate if the company they work for doesn't have its own team competing. He added that between two and four Lab workers are needed for each women's and men's age group team. The New Mexico Corporate Challenge is governed and sanctioned by New Mexico USA Track and Field, a nonprofit organization.
