Program develops future Laboratory leaders

Elena Yang of the Human Resources (HR) Division Office makes a point to participants in the Director's Development Program class of 2003. Yang presented a course on the difference between team and group dynamics, including understanding the power of norms. This is one of a series of regular brown bag lunches in the DDP. "Norms are informal, unwritten behaviors that peer pressure controls," Yang explained to the 18 managers in the group. "Sometimes they are negotiable. To change a culture, you must change the norms." The DDP was designed to address the Laboratory's need to better prepare individuals for effective transition to progressively higher levels of management. For more information, go to the DDP Web site at http://int.lanl.gov/orgs/hr/success/ddp/index.shtml online or contact DDP Project Leader Karen Ross at ross@lanl.gov by electronic mail.
