Los Alamos NewsLetter to be distributed this week

The new issue of the Los Alamos NewsLetter, dated the week of Jan. 19, is scheduled to be in mailboxes and newsstands this week.

In cover stories, Laboratory Director G. Peter Nanos addresses salary issues, and the new Isotope Production Facility is dedicated. In attendance are state VIPs.

The Nuclear Materials Technology (NMT) Division is kicking off a safety awareness campaign. Read about it on Page 2.

New Laboratory policies are the subject of two articles on Page 3, starting with the Lab's new catastrophic leave policy. Also on this page is a reminder about the numbers to call for information on the Laboratory's operating schedule during inclement weather.

Page 4 covers the Human Resources (HR) Division's "transformation" to a service-delivery model. "If it doesn't look right, it probably isn't," according to Internal Security (ISEC). Read about the experiences of Lab employees in dealing with inappropriate situations.

As reported earlier, the Lab's facilities and site-support services contractor, KSL Services, donated $200,000 to the Math and Science Academy. Page 4 has a brief on the event.

Newsmakers, including Lab employees who have received patent awards, fill pages 5 and 6. Page 7 holds the January service anniversaries and "This Month in History," while Page 8 highlights Lab employee Janie Enter's efforts to adopt foals that are the product of the hormone-replacement-drug industry.

Employees can access the Los Alamos NewsLetter at http://www.lanl.gov/worldview/news/lanl_archive.shtml online or obtain additional copies at the bright blue distribution boxes throughout the Lab. Organizations receiving too many or not enough should call the mailroom at 7-4166. If your organization's administrator is not putting the newsletter in your mailboxes, please encourage him or her to do so.
