The Laboratory's annual Holiday Drive to collect new toys, clothing and nonperishable food items for Northern New Mexico residents ends today.
Since the drive began Nov. 24, more than 500 "Angel Tags" were selected from Holiday Drive trees set up at various locations around the Lab, and many of the tags have been returned with holiday gifts, said Debbi Wersonick of the Community Relations (CRO) Office, which coordinates the drive.
In addition, more than 50 families from throughout Northern New Mexico have been "adopted" by Laboratory organizations, employees, Lab subcontract companies and community organizations, Wersonick added.
Laboratory workers are asked to return outstanding Angel Tags to collection points by the end of today. The Lab is conducting this year's Holiday Drive in cooperation with the Salvation Army, which provides assistance to individuals and families in Santa Fe, Española, Los Alamos, Taos, Las Vegas and other Northern New Mexico communities. Items that are collected through the drive will be distributed by the Salvation Army on Friday and Saturday, said Wersonick.
