New Occupational Medicine building opens next week

The new Occupational Medicine (HSR-2) building at Technical Area 3 opens its doors next Thursday, Dec. 18. The 20,000-square-foot facility is located off Pajarito Road, south of its current location on a site formerly used as surface parking. Laboratory workers in need of medical care should continue to go to the present location until the new building opens. No routine physical exams are being scheduled at the current facility but employees can call the nurses station at 7-7839 with medical questions and concerns.

Judy Gosling, left, HSR-2 deputy group leader, helps cut the ceremonial ribbon opening the new building last month. With Gosling from left to right are Dino Herrera, Herman LeDoux and Jim Hall, all of the Department of Energy and Randy Parks of Infrastructure, Facilities and Construction (IFC). The new building replaces the present HSR-2, which was no longer sufficient to met clinical-staff and activity needs. The current Occupational Medicine facility was constructed in 1977 and expanded 11 years later with the addition of two modular buildings. Austin Commercial of Dallas was the contractor for the new, $3.8 million facility. Photos by LeRoy N. Sanchez, Public Affairs
