November Laboratory Connection now onlineThe November issue of the Laboratory Connection has been published. It is distributed to the public and to community leaders in Northern New Mexico. (Adobe Acrobat Reader required) The Laboratory Connection -- published by the Community Relations (CRO) Office and Information Management (IM) Division -- is designed to enhance community understanding of Lab programs, community activities and initiatives, and business and educational opportunities. In this issue Tom Meyer, associate director for strategic research (ADSR), talks about the state of science at the Laboratory, while the cover story is an interview with Biosciences (B) Division Leader Jill Trewhella about the Lab's bioscience research and plans for a new BSL-3 laboratory facility. This issue also contains some scientific highlights from the past year at the Laboratory, including advances in HIV research, technology that can help identify the source of "dirty bombs," a Lab researcher's work as part of a international team of scientists that discovered fossilized skulls in Africa (see the June 12 Daily Newsbulletin) and information on new maps of Mars that detail the distribution of water-equivalent hydrogen revealed by Lab-developed instruments on the Mars Odyssey spacecraft (see the July 25 Daily Newsbulletin). Business briefs and a story about a Tri-Lab diversity report also are included in this issue.
