Albuquerque bus service to pick up commuters from state DOT offices

The state Department of Transportation has changed the pick up location of its new commuter service from Albuquerque. Beginning Monday, Dec. 1, the All-Aboard America park-and-ride service will pick up Albuquerque commuters from the state agency's district office, located at 7500 Pan American Freeway (east I-25 frontage road) north of San Antonio.

And because parking is limited at the department's Albuquerque district office, commuters are asked to follow the signs and park in the designated park-and-ride parking area, or to park at the park-and-ride lot in Bernalillo. "Parking and seating are both being offered on a limited basis," said Transportation Secretary Rhonda Faught. "We are encouraging riders to car pool to our District three offices or to use [the] park-and-ride lot in Bernalillo since there is limited parking at the New Mexico Department of Transportation offices."

Two of the four buses from Albuquerque - 4:30 and 6:30 a.m. - will travel to Los Alamos. The service costs $2 from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and another $1 to Los Alamos. The buses will stop at the Laboratory's shuttle bus lot at East Jemez Road and Diamond Drive at Technical Area 3 at 6:25 and 8:25 a.m. respectively. In the evening the buses leave TA-3 at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., respectively, arriving in Santa Fe about one hour later and in Albuquerque at 6:25 and 8:25 p.m., respectively, according to the route schedule.

About 3,000 riders a week are using the commuter bus service between Española, Santa Fe and Los Alamos since the service started in May, according to statistics from the Public Transportation Programs Bureau of the state transportation agency.
