Open enrollment ends Sunday for UC employees, retirees

University of California Laboratory employees and retirees have until midnight, Pacific Standard Time (PST) Sunday (Nov. 30) to sign up for health-care benefits for 2004. Open enrollment has been ongoing since Nov. 1 and active employees can select from three new plans.

United Healthcare is the Lab's new health-care provider beginning Jan. 1, 2004. Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico remains the Lab's health-care provider through Dec. 31.

Sandy Haire of Benefits and Employment Services (HR-B) emphasized that UC Lab employees should make a medical plan enrollment choice during open enrollment. Those who don't enroll will be defaulted into a plan based upon their current enrollment and address as of open enrollment. Employees who sign up for the Select EPO plan must choose a primary care physician or one will be assigned by United Healthcare.

Employees who need help making open enrollment changes online can contact HR-B at 7-1806, however, Haire noted that during the Thanksgiving holiday, no benefits services representatives in HR-B or at UC's benefits office will be available to answer telephones. Haire asked that employees remain patient and review the information on the Web pages and in their open enrollment booklets before calling or walking in to HR-B. Those employees who do visit HR-B in person will be helped on a first-come, first-service basis.

UC Lab retirees must make open enrollment changes by telephone using the open enrollment action line.

Benefits and Employment Services has a frequently asked questions Web page with information on open enrollment. The Web page can be found at http://www.lanl.gov/source/worklife/benefits/pathways/faqs.shtml online.

For instructions on how to enroll, go to http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/open_enrollment/employees/lanl/lanl_index.html online or call HR-B at 7-1806.

For information on 2004 health-care premiums, see the all-employee memo from Rich Marquez, associate director for administration (ADA). (Adobe Acrobat Reader required)

More information about open enrollment also is available in the Oct. 27 Daily Newsbulletin.
