United Way campaign continues through Nov. 26

Bowlathon raises $2,500

The Laboratory's 2004 "Caring That Changes Our Communities" giving campaign continues through Nov. 26. Laboratory workers through Tuesday have raised more than $577,000 in pledges and donations to this year's giving campaign.

The total was boosted from a bowlathon last weekend in Española. The event raised about $2,500.

The last, scheduled United Way special event is a raffle for a number of prizes to be awarded. The Northern New Mexico/Los Alamos and Santa Fe United Way chapters have donated prizes, including round trip airline tickets to anywhere in the United States and tickets to two performances of the Santa Fe Symphony. Four parking placards, good for one year, also are among the raffle prizes. Original, signed artwork by cartoonist Pat Oliphant and two handmade Kachina dolls were donated as prizes by Christina Armijo, Community Relations (CRO) Office director.

Every employee who makes a donation or a pledge is automatically entered into the raffle. Fair Share givers also are eligible for the drawing. For more information on the raffle, see the Nov. 12 Daily Newsbulletin.

Laboratory workers can pledge to the United Way campaign online. University of California employees with CRYPTOCards can make donations by going to http://unitedway.lanl.gov online. In addition to online pledging, Lab workers can pledge to United Way through payroll deduction. Or they can write a check to United Way, attach the check to the pledge card and return it to Mail Stop P232 through interoffice mail.

Lab workers also can participate in the Northern New Mexico/Los Alamos United Way Leadership Giving Circle, which is open to employees who donate at least $1,000 in the current campaign, or the United Way of Santa Fe County Leaders in Giving program, which is open to employees who donate $500 or more.

For information on individual agencies in Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico that Lab workers can contribute to, go to www.losalamos.com/unitedway/ online.

For information about the Community Priorities Fund of Santa Fe County go to www.uwsfc.org online. This fund ensures that donations are used locally in the areas of helping children succeed, improve health and healing, increase self-sufficiency and unify the community.
