Workshop gives participants tools, strategies for achieving breakthroughs

Organizational development expert Betsy Brandt talks at the Breakthrough Science workshop last Thursday at the Canyon School Complex. Brandt, a retired geophysicist, is now a professional trainer who developed the workshop, which is designed to give Laboratory technical staff members insight into methods for improving chances for achieving scientific breakthroughs. The workshop was cosponsored by Science and Technology Base (STB) Programs Office and Training and Development (HR-TD).

Rob Aikin of Materials Technology: Metallurgy (MST-6) holds up a picture of a turtle he selected to illustrate what he felt best represented his research project. Aikin and other workshop participants had to explain why they selected a particular photo. The workshop participants will meet again in December to report on what tools they used from the workshop and how it has made a difference in their Laboratory research. For more information on the workshop, see the Nov. 3 Daily Newsbulletin. Photos by LeRoy N. Sanchez, Public Affairs
