Thursday, November 13, 2003 Prescribed burns start today in Santa Fe National ForestPrescribed burning of materials is scheduled to begin today in the Santa Fe watershed area east of the city's downtown. The Santa Fe National Forest gathered the materials from thinning of more than 1,200 acres in the watershed area, a news release said. As conditions permit, smoke from the prescribed burns may be visible from Santa Fe and the surrounding areas. "Now is a good time to start burning and reduce the fuel loading. We should remove the piles before next season," said Dave Isackson of the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest. The forest thinning project above the Santa Fe watershed area is scheduled to continue over the next five to 10 years. To read a news release, click here.
