Linux clusters focus of talk Wednesday

Pete Savinelli, director of Linux cluster sales at IBM, will speak at the next Industry Forum Wednesday at the Los Alamos Research Park. The talk begins at 4 p.m., on the second floor conference center at the research park located at 4200 West Jemez Road across from Technical Area 3. Hot Rocks Java Café will provide refreshments.

Savinelli will talk about Linux clusters and how they have taken over the high-performance computing world. He will present an overview on the basics of clusters and how they are being used in the industries such as life sciences, oil exploration, aerospace and automotive, media and entertainment, as well as in universities and national labs.

Savinelli has worked for IBM since 1984 with a focus on high-performance computing. He led the installation of IBM's first large cluster at the University of New Mexico in 1999 and has been responsible for IBM Linux Clusters for the western states since 2000.

The talk is part of a continuing series of presentations designed to explore market applications for technology developments. The forum is a collaborative effort of Los Alamos Research Park and the Laboratory's Industrial Business Development (IBD) Division, which serves as the Laboratory's conduit for collaboration with private industries.
