Bake sales Thursday for United WayGiving campaign continues through Nov. 14 The Information Management (IM) and Facilities and Waste Operations (FWO) divisions are hosting bake sales on Thursday to raise money for the Laboratory's 2004 United Way giving campaign. The IM Division bake sale is from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Otowi Building second floor lobby at Technical Area 3. Muffins, pies, cakes and breakfast burritos will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to the United Way. In addition, Aramark Corp., the Lab's cafeteria services provider, has donated 20 pies for purchase. Contact Nikki Gaedecke of Enterprise Support and Computer Education (IM-2) at 7-0726 for more information about the bake sale. The FWO bake sales begin at 10 a.m. at the FWO Division conference room at TA-63 and in the Coyote Conference Room at TA-3 (Building 410). Numerous homemade baked goods will be available for purchase with all proceeds benefiting the United Way campaign, said Michelle Roybal of FWO. Contact Roybal at 7-6131 for more information. Meanwhile, Materials Science and Technology (MST) Division's MST-bay online auction ends at noon today. Lab workers can go to the Web page -- http://www.mst.lanl.gov/internal/mstbay/ -- and click on the postage size stamps. A new Web page opens describing the item up for bid and a minimum suggested bid. Workers can then submit their bid. All proceeds will go to this year's United Way campaign. Workers can only view available items for bid using the Internet Explorer Web browser. Some items available for auction include a New Mexico gift basket with regional goodies and a New Mexico cookbook, ski lessons, dinner for two in Santa Fe with MST Division Leader Paul Follansbee and a reserved parking spot in the MSL Division parking lot at Technical Area 3. For more information about the MST Division auction, contact Karen Kippen, the MST Division United Way representative at 5-1131. Other United Way activities are ongoing, including the sale of "The Caring Cookbook: Recipes from the Heart" cookbook. The $10 cookbook contains recipes from Lab employees and subcontract personnel. Call Valerie Salazar of the Industrial Business Development (IBD) Office at 5-9090 to purchase a cookbook. The campaign has raised $437,300 in pledges and donations through Monday. The Lab's "Caring That Changes our Communities" giving campaign officially ends Nov. 14. To see a list of scheduled United Way events, go to http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/cr/unitedway/uwcalendar.shtml online. Lab organizations planning on hosting fundraising events for this year's campaign should contact the Community Relations (CRO) Office at 5-4400 to have their event listed in the calendar.
