Breakthrough science workshop set for Nov. 13

Research has shown that breakthroughs in scientific teams are rare. On Nov. 13, a day-long workshop at the Canyon School Complex will examine this phenomenon and give Laboratory technical staff members insight into methods for improving chances for achieving scientific breakthroughs.

Technical staff members have until 5 p.m., Nov. 11 to sign up for the Breakthrough Science workshop, which is being held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Room 167 of the Canyon School Complex.

Training and Development (HR-TD) and the Science and Technology Base (STB) Programs Office are co-sponsoring the workshop. The class is limited to 20 technical staff members and pre-registration is required.

The workshop addresses understanding the essential collaborative breakthrough processes for creating new value and innovative spontaneity in the research process. It also will teach leaders and research staff how to

  • facilitate breakthroughs occurring in a team setting by using proven tools and techniques
  • master the language and tools that guide a strategic process in a faster, smarter, less costly way
  • reframe their research and development challenges and develop new modes for reflecting and acting on them
  • learn to be accountable to each other to exchange best practices and results.

The first breakthrough science workshop was held last year.

To register, contact Maryann Scelza of HR-TD at 7-9071, write to td-registrar@lanl.gov by electronic mail or go to http://hrcluster.lanl.gov/TIOCourses/TIOSession.asp?CourseSession=193930009 online.

For more information, contact MaryAna Eames of HR-TD at 5-8844 or write to meames@lanl.gov by electronic mail.
