Obey traffic signs when exiting secure areas

The Laboratory policy on personnel having their badges "touched" or examined upon exiting secure areas changed on Oct. 1, eliminating the requirement. However, secure area exits that include vehicular traffic still maintain stop or yield signs, and those traffic controls must be observed. Vehicles are still required to stop or yield as indicated, but for reasons of vehicular and pedestrian safety, not for the security badge check.

Employees should obey all traffic control signs when traveling in and around Laboratory property, and traveling to and from work. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration there were 6.1 million vehicular accidents in the United States in 2002 resulting in nearly 43,000 deaths, by far the leading cause of death for Americans ages two to 33.
