New legal plan for employees in 2004

The University of California has selected ARAG Group as its new legal plan provider replacing Signature LegalCare.

The ARAG legal plan will provide enhanced benefits in 2004, including major trial representation, IRS collection defense, IRS audit protection, identity theft services, online law guide and an online document library with more than 100 documents, said Sandy Haire of Benefits and Employment Services (HR-B).

The attorney network also will be larger in 2004. The ARAG group maintains a nationwide network of 6,500 attorneys and also provides worldwide coverage, Haire said.

The 2004 legal plan's monthly rate structure is:

Self: $8.49 Self plus adult: $11.67
Self plus child (ren): $11.67 Self plus adult plus child (ren): $12.73

If currently enrolled in the existing legal plan, automatic enrollment in the new plan will occur. If, however, employees are adding or deleting an eligible family member to the plan they will need to enroll online during open enrollment, which begins Saturday, said Haire.

The new legal plan is effective Jan. 1, 2004. Signature LegalCare will continue to provide legal plan coverage until Dec. 31.

For more information about the plan, call ARAG Group Customer Care at 800-828-1395, 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or write to service@araggroup.com by electronic mail.
