Wednesday, October 29, 2003 United Way fall fiesta today at Research ParkThree Laboratory organizations have teamed up to host the United Way fall fiesta from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., today on the grassy area outside the Los Alamos Research Park across West Jemez Road from Technical Area 3. All proceds from the event go to the Laboratory's 2004 United Way giving campaign. There will be food booths, entertainment, raffles, a silent auction, white elephant and bake sales and other events, according to Jan Frensdorf of Supply Chain Management (SUP) Division. The SUP, Chief Financial Officer (CRO) and Communications and External Relations (CER) divisions are hosting the event. Lab workers are encouraged to come to the event in their Halloween costume and have their picture taken in costume. Frensdorf said Lab workers can purchase $1 tickets at the big tent on the grass and redeem the tickets for food items, games and to pay for chances to dunk SUP, CFO and CER managers in a dunk tank. Food items for purchase include tacos, non-alcoholic margaritas, frito pies, hot dogs, chips and desserts. Lab workers who purchase tickets will be entered into a raffle for several prizes, including Indian pottery, round trip tickets to anywhere in the U.S. on Delta airlines, other trips, dinners, free rental car use, a retablo and other items, said Frensdorf. Pre-carved pumpkins also will be available for purchase. The Jettz, a local group, which includes several Lab workers, will provide the music entertainment. The Lab's 2004 United Way giving campaign continues through Nov. 14. More than $326,000 has been raised in pledges and donations as of Tuesday. For more information, contact Frensdorf at 5-0464.
