Going once, going twice'MST-bay' auction benefits United Way
Mary Hockaday, Dynamic Experimentation (DX) Division leader, takes the plunge at Monday's United Way fundraising event at Technical Area 22. Hockaday was one of several DX Division managers who agreed to be dunked to raise funds for the Laboratory's 2004 United Way giving campaign. More than $1,700 was raised from Monday's event, which included a white elephant sale, cake walk and a silent auction.
Lab workers can go to the Web page -- http://www.mst.lanl.gov/internal/mstbay/ -- and click on the postage size stamps. A new Web page opens describing the item up for bid and a minimum suggested bid. Workers can then submit their bid. All proceeds will go to this year's United Way campaign. Workers can only view available items for bid using the Internet Explorer Web browser. In the case of Boebinger's bid, Boebinger has vowed to outbid the total cumulative amount from bids submitted in order to keep his beard. A 90-minute sightseeing plane ride for two, framed underwater photos, an out-of-print Santa Fe Opera poster, a New Mexico gift basket with regional goodies and a New Mexico cookbook, dinner for two in Santa Fe with MST Division Leader Paul Follansbee and a reserved parking spot in the MSL Division parking lot at Technical Area 3 are some of the other items available for bid. Bids for the various items will be accepted until Nov. 5. More information about the MST Division auction is available by contacting Karen Kippen, the MST Division United Way representative at 5-1131. Other Laboratory organizations are sponsoring special United Way fundraising events. Risk Reduction and Environmental Stewardship (RRES) Division is hosting a bake sale and salsa tasting contest from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today in the Gila Conference Room at Ecology (RRES-ECO) at TA-21.
Mary Hockaday's rubber ducky waited patiently for her master to don her swimming fins before Hockaday took a splash in the dunk tank at Monday's United Way fundraising events. Other Lab organizations have special United Way events scheduled this week. More United Way special events can be found at http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/cr/unitedway/uwcalendar.shtml online.
