Open enrollment booklets are in the mail

University of California Laboratory employees and retirees should be receiving their open enrollment booklets at their homes this week.

The booklets were mailed to home addresses last week. Open enrollment for active UC Lab employees and retirees begins Nov. 3 and ends at midnight, Pacific Standard Time, Nov. 30.

The booklet contains information about the new health-care provider and plan options for 2004. United Healthcare will be the Lab's new provider beginning Jan. 1, 2004. Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico continues as the Lab's health-care provider through Dec. 31.

UC Lab employees should make a medical plan enrollment choice during open enrollment. Those who do not enroll will be defaulted into a plan based upon their current enrollment and home address at the time of open enrollment. Employees who sign up for the Select EPO plan must choose a primary care physician or one will be assigned by United Healthcare.

A number of presentations on open enrollment are scheduled in November for active UC employees and retirees, and a open enrollment fair is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 5, in the J. Robert Oppenheimer Study Center at Technical Area 3. More information on open enrollment can be found at http://www.lanl.gov/worklife/benefits/health/openenrollment/OEpres.shtml online.

For more information on open enrollment, 2004 health-care premiums, and links to Web pages, see the Oct. 3 Daily Newsbulletin. In addition, the Healthcare: Pathways to Change Web site has information about national health-care issues, access to a United Healthcare Laboratory Web site and a Web tool for input and comments.
