Lab hosts construction forum Oct. 8 in Los Alamos

Businesses can learn about future construction projects

The Laboratory’s Small Business Program (SUP-4) Office is hosting a construction forum Oct. 8 in the Los Alamos Research Park near Technical Area 3.

The free forum begins at 8 a.m. and is designed to provide information to companies about upcoming construction projects at the Laboratory as well as rules and requirements for those companies planning to respond to requests for proposal for this work.

The forum is in Room 203 of the Los Alamos Research Park. Parking is available onsite to attendees.

"The forum is designed to provide relevant and specific information on Laboratory construction business practices in an effort to ensure that businesses have both the information they need and the opportunity to pursue business with the Laboratory," said Teresa Trujillo, SUP-4 director. "The Laboratory has a number of short-term and longer-term building projects planned, and we want to make sure that businesses, especially local, Northern New Mexico businesses, know about these projects and hopefully, choose to take part in them."

At the forum, Laboratory staff members with expertise in various areas will make presentations on future construction and demolition projects, facility and infrastructure restoration projects, standards and specifications, Laboratory onsite safety and security plans and requirements and regulations about the Lab procurement process.

At 10:45 a.m., there will be a small-business feedback discussion in which business owners can provide suggestions and comments and express concerns they may have about doing business with the Laboratory.

Officials from Hensel Phelps Construction, the company that built the Nicholas Metropolis Center for Modeling and Simulation and the Nonproliferation and International Security Center, both at TA-3, also will provide perspective about building facilities for Los Alamos.

Business owners who want to participate in the forum should contact the Laboratory’s Protocol Office at 7-5543 by Thursday to reserve space.

Trujillo noted that the construction forum is an outgrowth of a business town hall meeting the Laboratory hosted this summer in Santa Fe to hear from businesses about the Laboratory’s business practices.

Trujillo will talk about the construction forum at 7:40 Friday morning on Los Alamos radio station KRSN.

For more information on the construction fair, contact Carlos Chacon of the Small Business Program Office at 5-4284 or Janelle Vigil-Maestas at 5-4329, or write to sbo@lanl.gov by electronic mail.
