Scientists determine large magellanic cloud galaxy formed similar to Milky Way

A Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory scientist and international researchers have a discovered that a neighboring galaxy - the Large Magellanic Cloud - appears to have formed with an old stellar halo, similar to how the Milky Way formed.

Kem Cook of Livermore's Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics was part of the Massive Compact Halo Objects team. Their research is reported in a recent issue of Science magazine.
