Thursday, September 25, 2003 Grounding of portable engine generatorsWhile on travel in England, a Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore lab employee were shocked by an incorrectly wired Local Area Network communications router for an alpha environmental continuous air monitor. The box had been wired at the Lab with the neutral and equipment grounding conductors reversed. One of the lab employees thought that the electrical safety officer had reviewed and approved the equipment, since he had shown the electrical safety officer where the equipment was located for review prior to the trip to England. But the electrical safety officer had not inspected or approved the router box. The box was not labeled as approved. To read the alert, click here.
