Tuesday, September 16, 2003 Editor's note: As the Laboratory continues implementing improved strategic and business plans, the Daily Newsbulletin will provide information on the continuing development of those plans - particularly the communications initiative. Part of this effort is communications tips designed to help improve daily communications both internal and external audiences. Gaining buy-inOne of the simplest and most important questions to ask a colleague is "What would you do?" With those four words, you're not telling someone how to handle a situation, but seeking their input. And once a course of action has been determined, colleagues will already feel like they are part of the solution. Get projects on track with "reverse brainstorming" To get derailed group projects back on track, have members of the group list reasons [the project] hasn't been met. Then, focus on one obstacle at a time and generate ideas on how best to work around them. Why respect matters It's sometimes said that if you lead through fear, you will have little time to respect.
