Zozobra displaces Santa Fe park and ride users this week

Old Man Gloom usually comes out on the losing end of the battle. But this week, at least for two days, he's king of the hill.

Because of the annual burning of Zozobra on Thursday, Laboratory workers who park at Fort Marcy Ballpark and commute to work from Santa Fe will have to park at one of two different locations.

Beginning Wednesday through Friday the park-and-ride parking lot at Fort Marcy Ballpark is being used to assemble the wood-and-paper puppet. On these days, park-and-ride users can park either at the state Department of Transportation's lot on Cerrillos Road or at the south side park-and-ride lot near Jaguar Drive and south Cerrillos Road, said Beverly Friedman, a department spokesperson.

"Some delays may be experienced because of this change in schedule, but every effort will be made to have park-and-ride buses arrive on time," said Friedman.

The parking lot at Fort Marcy Ballpark will be available for use again on Monday, Sept. 8.

The commuter bus service provides transportation to Los Alamos and Española from Santa Fe. Rides cost $1 each way. All Aboard America provides the commuter service for the State Transportation Department.

For more information, contact Josette Lucero of the Department of Transportation at 827-1577 or Dan Villa of All Aboard America at 424-1110.
