August issue of Laboratory Connection now online

The August issue of the Laboratory Connection has been published. It is distributed to community leaders in Northern New Mexico. (Adobe Acrobat Reader required)

The Laboratory Connection -- published by the Community Relations (CRO) Office and Information Management (IM) Division with editorial support from the Public Affairs Office (PAO) -- is designed to enhance community understanding of Lab programs, community activities and initiatives, and business and educational opportunities.

This issue contains a story about two Lab students who recently participated in a research forum and have received national recognition for their work. The issue also contains a story about a new Glovebox Technician Training program offered at Northern New Mexico Community College for the Lab.

The August issue includes a story about John Herrington, the first American Indian astronaut and his local educational outreach efforts. And there are stories about the Oppenheimer House, and the Bradbury Science Museum's new Science on Wheels program called "Galaxy to Go," which is an inflatable planetarium.

This issue also contains a story about the Lab's Off-site Source Recovery project that helps New Mexico and other states dispose of radioactive sources.

The Lab's Family Festival, which is part of the Lab's 60th Anniversary celebration, also is noted in pictures in this issue. Also, see the July 22 Daily Newsbulletin and the Aug. 4 Los Alamos NewsLetter for more about the Family Festival.
