Accountability requirements for multiple-item containersThe Nuclear Safeguards LIR (LIR 406-00-03) contains the requirement that nuclear material transactions be recorded in Material Accounting and Safeguards System (MASS) as specified in the Nuclear Material Custodian Handbook (Section 1.3). Section 2.1.D of the handbook details the data-entry procedure for creation and modification of multiple-item containers — including Material Type (MT) 95 containers — and the items within them. Additionally, multiple-item containers are not always associated with the MT95 code in the MASS records. To ensure the accuracy of material contral and accountability records throughout the Laboratory, requirements for multiple-item containers and the items contained within them have been revised. The requirements contained in this notice shall apply to all nuclear material accounts regardless of category and material type. The requirements contained in this notice establish the revised requirements for ensuring that multiple-item containers and their contents are correctly managed under a system that identifies and corrects or prevents errors in packaging by ensuring that MASS accuracy is verified at the individual item level.
