Public meeting on perchlorate set for Aug. 6 in Los Alamos

The Laboratory and several other agencies are hosting a meeting Aug. 6 to update the public on issues associated with perchlorate.

The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. in Graves Hall of the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road in Los Alamos. It continues through 8:30 p.m. and includes a poster session and discussion, and talks.

Perchlorate is a nonradioactive chemical that has been linked to human thyroid disfunction.

The Risk Reduction and Environmental Stewardship (RRES) Division, Los Alamos Medical Center, the state Environment Department, Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency are sponsoring the meeting.
