Employee meeting Thursday to discuss new health-care provider for UC Lab employees

University of California Laboratory employees can learn more about their new health-care provider, United Healthcare, at a meeting Thursday morning in the Administration Building Auditorium at Technical Area 3.

The meeting is from 10:30 a.m. to noon and is open to Laboratory badge holders. It also will be shown on Labnet Channel 9 and on desktop computers using Real Media and Internet Protocol Television technology.

Scheduled to be at the Lab Thursday to talk about the new health-care provider are Judy Boyette, associate vice president for UC's Human Resources and Benefits, Michelle French, executive director of UC Human Resources and Benefits Policy and Program Design and Mark Esteban, of UC's Health and Welfare Policy and Program Design.

The University of California said last week that United Healthcare was selected from among several companies to provide health-care benefits to UC Lab employees. They will provide health care coverage to UC Lab employees and retirees beginning Jan. 1, 2004. Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico is the current health-care provider. It will continue to provide health care coverage through Dec. 31.

Esteban of UC said United Healthcare is actively seeking out and bringing providers into their network. This process is ongoing and will be completed in the coming weeks and months. Many of these providers have expressed confidence that the details of a contract will be completed soon. United Healthcare also encourages UC Lab employees to provide recommendations on physicians and other providers to participate in the network.
