Nanos meets with studentsLaboratory Director G. Peter Nanos fields a question from student employee Hari Khalsa of Space Date Systems (NIS-3) Thursday in the Administration Building Auditorium at Technical Area 3. A graduate student at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Khalsa expressed concern about being passed over for jobs even though he feels he's a qualified applicant. Nanos told Khalsa he doesn't feel people should be treated differently because of where they went to school. Nanos also addressed issues concerning working conditions at the Lab, mentor relations and the length of time it takes to get a security clearance at the Lab. The director opened with remarks about his own experiences as a student in the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and as a student at Princeton University. Nanos believes one of the most important things about working at the Lab as a student, is that an individual leave with something that adds to a person's life. The director also boasted that the University of California is one the largest academic institution in America, noting that if you can't find something of interest in Los Alamos, you probably won't find it anywhere. About 400 students attended the annual meeting with the director. Photos by Michael Carlson, Public Affairs Other Headlines Los Alamos releases new maps of Mars Water more...
