Lab makes change in requirements for motorcycle riders at security condition posts

The Laboratory is implementing new rules for Lab personnel who drive motorcycles to work. The new rules take effect on Thursday.

Current rules for motorcycles entering Security Condition checkpoints, such as those on the east and west ends of Pajarito Road, Technical Area 3 on the west side of the Otowi Building, Bikini Atoll Road north of SM-30 and on Pajarito Road south of SM-39, allow motorcycle riders to pass through checkpoints without showing a Laboratory badge.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday (July 17), security police officers at these checkpoints will be verifying that motorcycle riders have a valid Laboratory badge in order to enter the Pajarito corridor. Riders without a valid badge won't be permitted onto the corridor.

The change is being made to increase site security and to respond to a number of security concerns from Laboratory employees. There may be minor delays in traffic movement for several days until motorcycle riders become familiar with the new rule and employee patience is appreciated. Security personnel at the checkpoints will make every effort to keep the traffic flowing as rapidly and as safely as possible.
