Tuesday, July 15, 2003 Lab revises parking policy for government vehiclesA lack of parking has prompted the Laboratory to dispense with reserved spaces for certain government vehicles. The policy change took effect May 1 and is currently under review by Utilities and Infrastructure (FWO-UI). In the past, many Laboratory employees had permission to park in reserved spaces that matched their government vehicles license plate number. With the policy change, vehicles will be given a reserved space because of a particular need. The only justification for reserve parking will be for specialty vehicles that require specific types of access, including utility and large capacity vehicles that require constant loading and unloading, said Crystal Rodarte-Romero of FWO-UI. The new rule also applies to non-government vehicles that require specific access to the Laboratory, Romero said. In an effort to control this situation, all specific government parking spaces will need to be reviewed, Romero said. Utilities and Infrastructure will serve as the point of contact to determine whether or not these spaces can be designated as government parking. Romero said government spaces for parking convenience will be prohibited because it is not critical to the Laboratorys mission, and it only exhibits favoritism. For additional questions or information, contact Romero at 5-0106, or write to crystal@lanl.gov by electronic mail. For more information on the revised parking procedure, go to http://arania.lanl.gov/fwo_pub/fwo_fmu8/html/traffic.html online.
