UC's LabUPDATE now onlineThe latest issue of the University of California's LabUPDATE is now online. LabUPDATE is a periodic report from the University of California about the Los Alamos, Berkeley and Livermore national laboratories. The issue includes a message from UC President Richard Atkinson on his successor, Robert Dynes, who last week was named as 18th president of the University of California. Dynes currently is chancellor at UC, San Diego. "Bob is a first-rate scholar, a highly capable manager and a deeply compassionate individual," said Atkinson. "His record of performance as chancellor of [UC, San Diego], his commitment to the core values of the University of California, and his vision for the future will make him a superb president." In this issue, readers also will find news about Los Alamos scientists and their research with an international team interpreting the results of the most sensitive X-ray survey of the Andromeda galaxy, as well as the Laboratory's involvement with a research alliance involving other New Mexico entities and universities designed to create more high-technology jobs in the state. There's also news about a portable X-ray computed tomography scanner developed by scientists at Lawrence Berkeley lab, and a energy-level record of ultraviolet light established at the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore lab.
