Giles, Weber new deputy associate directors for Threat Reduction

Joseph "Cliff" Giles and Paul G. Weber are the new deputy associate directors in the Threat Reduction (ADTR) Directorate Office.

Giles will be the principal deputy in ADTR, while Weber will be the deputy associate director for defense science and technology.

Giles will assume his new title immediately, and his first assignment is to continue in his current role as acting Nonproliferation and International Security (NIS) Division leader.

"I am very much looking forward to having Cliff as my principal deputy. Cliff has worked in nonproliferation and related programs at the Laboratory for some 13 years, most recently as principal deputy division leader in NIS division," said Don Cobb, associate director for Threat Reduction. "Cliff's experience and knowledge make him well qualified for his new assignment. In the role as principal deputy, Cliff will help me lead the Laboratory's threat reduction mission and will serve as lead TR manager in my absence."

"Paul is an excellent choice to help develop and expand the Laboratory's technical support to the Department of Defense, related government agencies, and the military," Cobb said of Weber. "Paul has excellent management and leadership skills, most recently serving as the leader of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division. "He also has the exceptional scientific and technical background to take on this challenging assignment.

"The Department of Defense is moving to transform the nation's defense capability to meet new threats to our national security. Scientific and technical innovation will be a hallmark of this transformation," Cobb continued. "As a leader in one of the premier national security science and technology laboratories, Paul will lead and help guide the Laboratory's efforts in supporting the transformation of our nation's defenses."

Weber begins his new job June 9.
