Laboratory conference marks birth of the Metropolis algorithm
Fifty years ago this month (June 1953), the late Nicholas Metropolis, Arianna Rosenbluth, Marshall Rosenbluth, the late Augusta (Mici) Teller and Edward Teller authored a paper for the Journal of Chemical Physics describing a novel Monte Carlo algorithm that made it possible to use the computer to calculate the equation of state of any physical system.
