Seventh Generation report being distributed to work force

"For the Seventh Generation: A Report to Our Communities," is being distributed to all Laboratory employees. The report, produced by the Health, Safety and Radiation Protection (HSR) Division, addresses frequently encountered challenges to national security, health, safety and technology.

In this issue, the theme of generations, past, present and future is featured with a historical piece on Laboratory pioneer Edward Hammel; articles recognizing current employees; and upcoming Laboratory programs and projects.

In an introductory note, Interim Laboratory Director Pete Nanos states, "From our nation's wartime crisis in the 1940s to the present threat of terrorism, the Laboratory's men and women have met and overcome many challenges. In service to the nation, Laboratory employees actively seek out new ways to meet the challenges of contemporary life--both the challenges to national security and the challenges of modern health, safety and technology."

"For the Seventh Generation: A Report to Our Communities," was started in 1997 as a means for reporting to the public the Laboratory's performance involving health, safety and the environment. According to Earlene Hammock, of Communication Arts and Services (IM-1), "The publication presents information in a non-technical manner, and we hope employees will take it home to share with their families and communities."
