Commuters taking to new shuttle service

Additional bus added from Los Alamos to Española

More than 2,500 commuters hopped on an All Aboard America bus between Santa Fe, Española and Los Alamos in the first week of the new service.

As a result of demand, the state Highway and Transportation Department has added an additional bus on the Los Alamos to Española leg. To see the new "Green" route, click here. (Adobe Acrobat Reader required)

Beginning today, a bus will leave Los Alamos at about 6:15 p.m. from the Central Avenue/20th Street pickup and drop off location, and at 6:25 p.m. from the pickup/dropoff location at the East Jemez Road and Diamond Drive shuttle bus lot east of Diamond Drive at Technical Area 3.

In the first week of the service, the Santa Fe to Los Alamos route had the highest usage, according to statistics provided by the Public Transportation Programs Bureau of the state agency. The Española to Santa Fe route had the fewest riders. No figures for week two use were available.

The commuter bus service began May 12. It costs $1 each way to ride the bus and monthly passes also can be purchased. KSL Services vans are shuttling Lab workers to outlying technical areas from the TA-3 dropoff and pickup lot.

For more information, see the May 5 Daily Newsbulletin. Commuters who have questions or comments about the new service can write to S. U Mahesh of the state Highway and Transportation Department at S.U.Mahesh@nmshtd.state.nm.us by electronic mail.
