Lab to present certificate of appreciation to city of Santa Fe

Lab to help kick off Santa Fe Community Day festivities

Interim Laboratory Director Pete Nanos or his representative this afternoon is scheduled to present a certificate to the Santa Fe City Council expressing appreciation and gratitude to the city for its support and partnership over the years on the occasion of Los Alamos' 60th Anniversary.

Nanos or his representative also will help kick off the festivities on the Plaza at 10 a.m. Saturday at Santa Fe's Community Day celebration. The Laboratory will have a booth on the downtown plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lab officials have noted that the communities in Northern New Mexico are vital to the Lab's past, present and future accomplishments. To acknowledge their contributions and to thank its neighbors, the Lab is making community recognition and appreciation part of its commemoration of 60 years in Northern New Mexico, and the Lab's 60th Anniversary Task Force plans a stronger focus and presence at long-standing community events in the region throughout late spring and summer.

"The Lab is intentionally planning ways to strengthen its participation in certain community events to express our appreciation and recognition," said Denny Erickson, co-chair of the Lab's 60th Anniversary task force.

To help commemorate the Lab's 60th Anniversary, the Laboratory information booth that will be showcased at community events has been expanded to include a special display highlighting the Lab's past and future role in education, economic development and environment in Northern New Mexico. Part of the exhibit features longtime employees and multigenerational families of Lab employees from throughout the region. Representatives from Lab groups focused on recruitment, small business, education programs and environmental restoration also will be on hand to answer questions, and special handouts will be available.

In addition to the Santa Fe Community Day, the Lab plans to participate in other regional celebrations, including the Los Alamos Chamberfest in June, the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts and Crafts Fair at San Juan Pueblo in July and Spirit Days in Española in August.
