Tuesday, May 6, 2003 "Working for a Better Tomorrow" theme of diversity training seminarThe Laboratory is a co-host for the Department of Energy's Office of Economic Impact and Diversity 2003 DOE/Contractor and Equal Employment Opportunity Diversity Training Seminar May 12, 13 and 14 in the Albuquerque Convention Center. "Working for a Better Tomorrow" is the theme of the seminar, which provides DOE and contractor employees with valuable learning tools and resources to create a positive work environment for all employees, said Berylene Rogers of the Diversity (DVO) Office. Recipients of the 2003 DOE/Contractor EEO & Diversity "Best Practices" awards will be announced at the seminar. The awards are designed to highlight new and innovative equal employment opportunity and diversity programs and initiatives within DOE's federal and contractor entities. DOE Secretary Spencer Abraham has been invited to speak as well as Interim Laboratory Director Pete Nanos, Lisa Gutierrez, DVO director and special assistant in the Administration Directorate (ADA), Norm Johnson of Computational Fluid Dynamics (T-3) and Todd Conklin of Nuclear Materials Technology (NMT-3). Conklin is this year's seminar keynote speaker. Conklin's presentation is titled "Four secrets to finding peace, love, happiness and weight loss at work." Conklin said he encourages employees to find new ways to perceive work by realizing that jobs are temporary, more like seminars, essentially adventures, and that satisfaction comes from the work itself. Nanos is scheduled deliver a welcoming address on May 13. Gutierrez, Johnson and Conklin also will lead breakout sessions during the seminar. This year's event is co-hosted by DOE, the National Nuclear Security Administration Service Center and Sandia National Laboratories.
