Science Circus is today at Bradbury Science Museum

Hands-on science activities and demonstrations for elementary school age children designed to make science fun can be found at the 10th annual Science Circus from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Laboratory's Bradbury Science Museum.

Science Circus is free and open to the public.

The activities will provide something of interest for almost everyone, said Pat Berger of the museum, part of the Laboratory's Community Relations (CRO) Office. Attendees can wander between demonstrations about the human brain, robotic insects and real insects from the Pajarito Plateau.

"Children can learn how sound waves move through water and how scorpions and tarantulas move on the ground," Berger said. "They will learn about some of the physical properties of water, and seemingly, how to defy gravity by controlling fluid instabilities."

Other hands-on events include such subjects as magnets, geology, acids and bases.

Presenters include staff from the Laboratory, Los Alamos County Extension Office and the Balloon Explorium in Albuquerque.

The Bradbury Science Museum is located at 15th Street and Central Avenue in Los Alamos. Regular museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

For more information, call Berger at 5-0896.
