Corporate Challenge spring track meet is April 27Lab to field teamUniversity of California Laboratory employees, retirees, spouses and their offspring, and subcontract personnel can join the Lab's team participating in the United States Corporate Athletics Association's New Mexico spring Corporate Challenge. This year's track and field meet is April 27 at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque. The Corporate Challenge pits local employers such as the Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories and Intel Corp., in running and field events, said Ron Kirkpatrick of Thermonuclear Applications (X-2) and the Lab's Corporate Challenge team captain. Events include 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meter runs, relays of mixed age and gender, shot put, discus, long jump and high jump field events, said Kirkpatrick The cost to enter any of the track and field events is $4 per event. Personal checks should be addressed to New Mexico Corporate Challenge and mailed to Kirkpatrick at Mail Stop T085. The deadline to sign up for the track and field events is Thursday. The Lab's participation in the Corporate Challenge is Laboratory sanctioned. Los Alamos has participated in the challenge for more than 20 years, according to Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick noted that subcontract personnel can participate if the company they work for doesn't have its own team competing. He added that between two and four Lab workers are needed for each women's and men's age group team. The New Mexico Corporate Challenge is governed and sanctioned by New Mexico USA Track and Field, a nonprofit organization.
