March Laboratory Connection newsletter now online

The March issue of the Laboratory Connection has been published. It is distributed to community leaders in Northern New Mexico.

The newsletter -- published by the Community Relations (CRO) Office and Information Management (IM) Division with editorial support from the Public Affairs Office (PAO) -- is designed to enhance community understanding of Lab programs, community activities and initiatives, and business and educational opportunities.

This issue highlights some of the student education programs at the Lab and their importance as an outreach tool. One program in particular, the Lab's Math and Science Academy, recently was showcased at the 2003 State Legislature in Santa Fe.

Former technical staff member and now Lab affiliate Don Pettit of Applied Engineering Technologies (ESA-AET) is on the International Space Station. Read about Pettit in this issue. Also, read about Pettit's Saturday Morning Science experiments in the Feb. 28 Daily Newsbulletin.

There's also information about a materials science training program and a recent visit to the Española Valley by Interim Laboratory Director Pete Nanos.
