Tuesday, March 18, 2003 Water Tower installed at new Emergency Operations CenterWorkers at the new Emergency Operations Center at Technical Area 69 spent last Saturday lifting the stem and bulb of the facility's water tower into place. The 71-foot stem weighs about 83,800 pounds and the bulb weighs 73,000 pounds. The completed tower is 125 feet tall. Pittsburgh Tower and Tank Co. installed the 120,000-gallon tank, which will provide water for the EOC. The tank will have a fill connection in the event that water trucks need to draw water from the tank. The tank is filled by the stem protruding from the top. Pittsburgh Tank and Tower Co. is a subcontractor to the Austin Co., which is building the Emergency Operations Center. The new EOC is 65 to 70 percent complete with completion expected in late July at a cost of $21.5 million.
